Toward Next-Generation Sensing in Which AI Performs the Optimal Measurement for the Situation

KarteCo Inc. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hiroyuki Iwasaki; hereinafter “the Company”) is pleased to announce that it has independently developed a new sensing (contactless biometric information acquisition technology) engine that makes use of AI (artificial intelligence), and will progressively incorporate it into the various services the Company provides.

This technology evolves from the conventional rule-based analysis method to a new form of sensing in which AI judges the optimal measurement method according to the situation, and the Company positions this as “second-generation” sensing.

From “Measuring from the Face” to “Measuring While AI Understands”

Until now, the Company has worked to provide a mechanism that lets people easily grasp their health condition through camera-based sensing technology.

With this renewed sensing technology, rather than simply analyzing the facial image, AI comprehensively judges factors such as the skin condition and shooting conditions at each moment, and automatically selects and analyzes the information suited to measurement. This has achieved more stable sensing that takes real-world usage environments into account, more so than before.

Unlike conventional, fixed algorithms, this sensing technology, which evolves as it is used more frequently, is designed on an AI foundation. This makes it possible to aim for continuous performance improvement by incorporating new findings and data, and going forward the Company will keep developing the sensing performance itself alongside the evolution of its services.

Rather than providing a “finished sensing technology” through its various services, the Company aims to provide a “sensing technology that keeps growing.”

Toward Sensing That Can Be Used in Everyday Environments

This renewal also worked to improve sensing performance for a range of anticipated use scenes, not only indoors. In actual usage environments, measurement conditions are constantly changing — lighting, posture, slight movements and more.

By designing the new sensing technology with this kind of everyday-environment use in mind, the Company envisions its use not only in laboratories but across a wide range of settings — offices, medical institutions, care facilities, construction sites, the home and more.

A First Step Toward Realizing an AI Health Platform

The Company aims to realize an “AI health platform” that continuously understands people’s health condition and provides the optimal health support for each individual. This renewal of sensing technology is the foundational technology that forms the first step toward that.

Going forward, by combining sensing technology with AI, the Company will develop this into a new kind of healthcare service that stays close to each person — not only understanding their health condition, but also providing advice and support suited to their individual condition, and even coordinating with AI agents.
